I must admit I'm biased. My favorite is the pond on the ground. Has several advantages over traditional ground pools. My koi pond is actually a hybrid, because it is partially lifted.
Security
If you have small children or pets too adventurous acts a barrier wall to safety. This alone is reason enough to raise your pond. The wall of a pond on the ground also makes it safer for fish. Resize or perched on a wall puts predators on the plainspoint of view, something I do not like.
Less work
An earthen pond koi above requires much less dig. After spending much time on the tip of a blade, I can safely move the concrete block is the easiest way. Excavation less means less fill dirt to move and delete. You will be amazed at the amount of dirt you have. It actually increases in volume when you dig. Or so it seems. I just try to put it all back!
Easier to configure
